The Rev. Dr. George A. Kirkup was ordained and installed as the Pastor of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Holbrook on July 11, 2009.

Rev. Kirkup is a native of Syosset, NY.  He is a graduate of Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where he earned a Master of Divinity degree. Pastor Kirkup holds a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of California, Berkley, and earned undergraduate and graduate degrees in Mathematics from Harvard University.  He is married to Colleen, whom he met when they were graduate students at UC Berkeley while she studied physical chemistry.  They have four young children.

He has been a Christian his whole life and was confirmed at the age of 24 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Berkeley, CA.  He and Colleen were founding members of Lutheran Student Fellowship at Berkeley.  His vicarage was at Trinity Lutheran in Norman, OK where he led the LC-MS campus ministry and worked in the parish.  He loves to talk with young people and college students about Jesus and guide them in their faith.
